Fiber Optic Attenuator

An optical fiber attenuator is an optical component designed to reduce the energy of an optical signal. It is used to attenuate the input optical power, thereby preventing distortion in the optical receiver caused by excessively high input power. As a passive optical component, the fiber optic attenuator is used in optical communication systems for adjusting optical power performance, calibrating optical fiber instruments, and attenuating optical signals. The product is manufactured using attenuating fiber doped with metal ions, enabling the adjustment of optical power to the desired level.

Performance Requirements:
1. Repeatability: 10 insertion/removal cycles; change in insertion loss ≤ 0.1 dB.
2. Mechanical Durability: 500 insertion/removal cycles; change in insertion loss ≤ 0.2 dB.
3. Drop Test: Drop height 1 m, 5 drops; change in insertion loss ≤ 0.1 dB.
4. Vibration: Frequency 10 Hz to 55 Hz, amplitude 0.75 mm, sweep rate 1 octave/min, 30 minutes each in two perpendicular directions; Insertion loss change ≤ 0.2 dB.
5. High Temperature: Temperature 75°C, duration 96 hours; insertion loss change ≤ 0.2 dB.
6. Low Temperature: Temperature -40°C, duration 96 hours; insertion loss change ≤ 0.2 dB.
7. Temperature Cycling: Temperature range: -25°C to +70°C; each extreme temperature maintained for 30 minutes; temperature change rate not exceeding 1°C/min; 5 cycles; change in insertion loss ≤ 0.2 dB.
8. Damp heat: Temperature 40°C, relative humidity 93%, duration 48 hours; change in insertion loss ≤ 0.2 dB.
9. Salt spray: Salt spray concentration 5%; temperature 35°C, duration 48 hours; change in insertion loss ≤ 0.2 dB.
10. Flame Retardancy: Blue flame (20±2) mm; each sample is exposed to the flame twice, for 30 seconds each time, with a 10-minute interval between exposures. After removal from the flame, the sustained burning time for each sample shall be less than 10 seconds, and the base layer shall not burn.
