It is used to attenuate the input optical power, thereby preventing distortion in the optical receiver caused by excessively high input power. As a passive optical component, the fiber optic attenuator is used in optical communication systems for adjusting optical power performance, calibrating optical fiber instruments, and attenuating optical signals.
